Realizou est\u00e1gios p\u00f3s-doutorais na University of Florida, USA (1990-91), na Universit\u00e9 de Nice, Fran\u00e7a (1991-93), na Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Ezequiel Dias, Brasil (1994-1997) e na Virginia Commonwealth University, USA (2007). Ingresso na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) em 1997. Atualmente \u00e9 professor titular no Departamento de Fisiologia e Biof\u00edsica do Instituto de Ci\u00eancias Biol\u00f3gicas da UFMG. Foi coordenador do Programa de P\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o em Ci\u00eancias Biol\u00f3gicas, Fisiologia e Farmacologia no per\u00edodo 2009-2011 e do Mestrado Profissional em Inova\u00e7\u00e3o Tecnol\u00f3gica e Propriedade Intelectual no per\u00edodo 2013-19. Presidiu a comiss\u00e3o que criou em 2015 o Doutorado em Inova\u00e7\u00e3o Tecnol\u00f3gica e Biofarmac\u00eautica (UFMG). Foi coordenador adjunto dos Programas Profissionais da \u00e1rea CBII na CAPES no per\u00edodo 2018-22. Coordenou a Rede Mineira de Pesquisas em Nanobiotecnologia no per\u00edodo de 2014 a 2018. Atualmente, \u00e9 sub-coordenador do Centro Institucional de Tecnologia e Inova\u00e7\u00e3o (CT) em Terapias Avan\u00e7adas e Inovadoras na UFMG e pesquisador da Unidade Embrapii F\u00e1rmacos e Vacinas da UFMG. Atua nos seguintes temas de pesquisa: metalodrogas, mecanismos de resist\u00eancia a drogas, nanossistemas carreadores de f\u00e1rmacos e vacinas contra doen\u00e7as infecciosas. Teve contribui\u00e7\u00f5es significativas na farmacologia de medicamentos antimoniais usados contra a leishmaniose e a melhoria da sua entrega por meio de abordagens qu\u00edmicas e nanotecnol\u00f3gicas. Em 2022, se destacou entre os cientistas mais influentes do mundo, por estar entre os dois por cento mais citados na \u00e1rea de Farm\u00e1cia e Farmacologia (ranqueamento feito pela Stanford University, EUA). Em 2024, foi agraciado pelo Pr\u00eamio Mercosul de Ci\u00eancia e Tecnologia, categoria Pesquisador S\u00eanior. Participa como inventor de tr\u00eas tecnologias baseadas em nanossistemas carreadores de f\u00e1rmacos, que foram licenciadas para empresas farmac\u00eautica e cosm\u00e9tica. Uma dessas tecnol\u00f3gicas gerou dois produtos dispon\u00edveis no mercado brasileiro.
