O aumento das temperaturas e da concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de g\u00e1s carb\u00f4nico (CO<sub>2<\/sub>) na atmosfera chegaram aos maiores n\u00edveis j\u00e1 registrados. Com isso, animais e plantas j\u00e1 est\u00e3o ficando mais vulner\u00e1veis e propensos \u00e0 extin\u00e7\u00e3o. E n\u00e3o h\u00e1 mais possibilidade de retornar aos padr\u00f5es normais do planeta. O que resta \u00e9 descobrir formas de sobreviver ao \u201cnovo normal\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Para medir o impacto dessas transforma\u00e7\u00f5es, pesquisadores est\u00e3o recriando as condi\u00e7\u00f5es atmosf\u00e9ricas previstas para o ano de 2100, com n\u00edveis mais altos de CO<sub>2<\/sub> e temperaturas at\u00e9 3\u00baC mais altas do que a que temos atualmente. Nessas estufas, que funcionam como c\u00e1psulas do tempo, os cientistas est\u00e3o cultivando plantas essenciais na alimenta\u00e7\u00e3o e economia brasileira para responder \u00e0 quest\u00e3o: como vamos sobreviver no futuro pr\u00f3ximo?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Em um estudo in\u00e9dito publicado em uma das mais prestigiadas revistas de bot\u00e2nica do mundo, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0098847223002435?via%3Dihub\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0098847223002435?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Environmental and Experimental Botany<\/a><\/em>, pesquisadores da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) demonstraram o impacto do aumento do di\u00f3xido de carbono, combinado com altas temperaturas, no desempenho do girassol. O<em> Helianthus annuus<\/em> (nome cient\u00edfico) \u00e9 um importante produto da ind\u00fastria do pa\u00eds, mat\u00e9ria prima para a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00f3leos aliment\u00edcios e biodiesel. O cultivo tem aumentado no Cerrado, bioma j\u00e1 castigado pela desertifica\u00e7\u00e3o e mapeado como um dos locais que mais ser\u00e3o afetados pelo aumento da temperatura e pela crise clim\u00e1tica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mas al\u00e9m da import\u00e2ncia econ\u00f4mica, outro fator torna os girass\u00f3is um coringa para analisar a sobreviv\u00eancia do planeta. \u00c9 a caracter\u00edstica de metabolismo dos girass\u00f3is. Essa adapta\u00e7\u00e3o relacionada \u00e0 fotoss\u00edntese \u00e9 similar a 84% de todas as esp\u00e9cies de plantas do planeta (uma categoria chamada de C3). Isso significa que os resultados com girassol indicam o impacto das emiss\u00f5es de carbono para a grande maioria das plantas que temos ao nosso redor, como soja ou feij\u00e3o.&nbsp; Os pesquisadores tamb\u00e9m j\u00e1 utilizaram soja, milho e at\u00e9 lagartas em estudos similares, demonstrando a complexa intera\u00e7\u00e3o entre as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas e o comportamento adaptativo das plantas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>C\u00e1psulas do tempo<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Os girass\u00f3is foram inseridos em c\u00e2maras de topo aberto, estruturas de acr\u00edlico com mais de 2 metros de altura. Nessas c\u00e2maras, o g\u00e1s carb\u00f4nico \u00e9 injetado e monitorado, enquanto o ambiente pode ser aquecido para simular as condi\u00e7\u00f5es de altas temperaturas que j\u00e1 estamos enfrentando atualmente. As flores diminu\u00edram de tamanho e passaram a produzir muitas sementes vazias e p\u00f3len de pior qualidade. At\u00e9 a cor das p\u00e9talas ficou diferente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As consequ\u00eancias disso v\u00eam em cadeia.
