UFMG receives foreign students as part of mobility programs and memoranda of cooperation established with other universities. The students can attend UFMG for up to two academic semesters. The qualification is awarded by the university of origin, which issues a certificate showing performance in disciplines at UFMG.
Both undergraduate and postgraduate students can take part in an exchange, as long as they are duly enrolled in a foreign institute of higher education with which UFMG has a memorandum of academic cooperation. Students have to submit evidence of oral and written proficiency in Portuguese, such that they will be able to follow UFMG lessons.
The forms of entry are:
Entry examination (the “vestibular”)
In order to become a fully enrolled student on an undergraduate course at UFMG, foreign students also need to sit the vestibular, in the same way as Brazilian students..
Postgraduate
In order to apply for a postgraduate course, students need to have a diploma of graduation in an institute of higher education.. Admission to a postgraduate course is subject to the selection criteria and requirements vary from course to course. In general, the examinations consist in presentation of a study plan, specific qualifications and an interview.
Foreign students have to apply for and pass the selection exam before they can receive the letter of acceptance with which they can request a student’s visa.
Official acceptance is conditional on the candidate complying with all the other stages that Brazilian students have to pass through.
Transfer
Acceptance of a student from another institute of higher education, whether Brazilian or foreign, is conditional on the existence of surplus places.
Student Agreement Programme – Undergraduate e Postgraduate (PEC-G and PEC-PG)
The Undergraduate and Postgraduate Student Agreement Program is the result of cultural, scientific and technological cooperation agreements signed between developing countries with a view to building up human resources. It allows students, university teachers, researchers, professionals and graduates of higher education from developing countries to study in Brazil.
Brazilian embassies in those countries are responsible for promoting the program and for initiating the selection process.
